Custom air ducting

Thread Starter
I want to use regular white styrofoam to create a mold for a custom air duct to provide air for my gpu's, I was just wondering if anyone knew of something I can use to cover the styrofoam that would become the actual air duct.

Basically I want to take foam and form it into the area that the air will actually travel through, then coat it in some liquid that will harden so that i can then remove the styrofoam, create a way to mount it and BAM,I have a custom air duct.

I was thinking of just coating it in some resin epoxy type material, or maybe bondo, or plaster of paris, but I am sure someone has a better idea.

Maybe you could take a paper bag and place it over your Avatar...

Seriously though, I would PM Sryillian and see what he recomends. But I personaly would use fiberglass and resin. My brother-in-law uses the stuff to make remote control airplanes. They can survive high speed impact (for the most part), so it has to be strong enough for what you need. He recommends getting it from ebay, as it costs him about 1/5th the price of getting it at the hobby store.

Edit: Here is a $23 kit on ebay, and another.

Styrene which is used to make Styrofoam will likely melt when you apply resins which are used to create fiberglass products and various body fillers.
The weir green looking foam florist use aren't subject to that issue.

So, dependent on the material you use to fashion the duct, I hope that was useful.

Also, you might be amazed what you can cut, roll, form from large pop bottles

muchos thankos, I was kind of worried some of the things I would try would eradicate the styrofoam.

I guess I will just have to do some experimenting.
