Ram overclock?

Thread Starter
Due to a heat wave that's decided to make it's way into the tri-state area I've been having a few problems with my overclock as of late. I'm using an 8800gtx, which WAS overclocked to 648-gpu/1512-shader/1008-memory but I'm now seeing a few artifacts if I let ati-tool go for over 5 minutes or so on it's artifact test.

Now for the time being I've set my speeds to xfx 8800gtx xxx standards (it's not an xxx card) and it's doing just fine. The method I've been using to overclock this card is stepping up the gpu one notch at a time, watching for heat and artifacts and then when the gpu is at it's max I use the same method for the shader. My question is, how do you know when you've pushed the ram to far? I'm going to assume heat is probably a non-issue as long as no over-volting is done, but what are the signs of instability there? Will I see artifacts, hiccups, anomolies, etc.?

Thanks!
