P35-DS3L sound wont work

I built my friends computer recently using a P35-DS3L that we found open box. He received it with everything and nothing was opened up not even the plastic on the board. We installed windows and everything works just fine. We installed the sound drivers from the cd...or so we thought but sound didn't work. Then we looked on gigabytes site for the sound drivers and after the 50+ meg download it asked for a place to extract everything to. Where should it be extracted?

It should default a folder to extract it to. If I remember correctly, it's just extracting the install package, so just install it anywhere. Are you sure you went though the settings to make sure it's all set up as well as plugged into the right inputs (set to the right audio as well - Digital/Analog)?

Well i tried using the one from the CD and it didn't work. The driver didn't show up in add/remove programs list and sound wasn't working so i assumed the driver was messed up. He is messing with the extraction himself becuase i had to leave and he lives a half hour away.

If all else fails, buy a cheap sound card.

you can extract anywhere. Make him extract to desktop, because after it extracts he might have to go into the folder and click "Setup".

On Windows XP SP3 but we tried when it was only Windows XP without a service pack becuase thats the only disk he had on him.

Hes decided to just buy the cheap card from walmart and some x-230's for 40 bucks whiles there which is a good deal.

XP SP3 is missing the audio bus driver. That is most likely the problem. Not the mobo.

Anyways..... It's worth a try. Here's the driver.
