Closest LCD to a laptop display?

Thread Starter
I've been using laptops for so long that going to a desktop means a new shiny monitor but also a PITA to find.

I've got high standards, I think. My laptop display is only 17" (which is big when it's right in your face LOL) but 1680 x 1050. This appears to be the res on a 22"!!! monitor. Why so bad?

I also, hate, HATE, these matte monitors. LOVE the glossy screen. But I haven't seen any, supposedly they do exist. I may take a trip to BB and see again, but everytime I've gone I've said "well, glad I use a lappy, these monitors suck!" haha.

Ok, so I'm looking for 22"-24", don't think any bigger would be useful for me, so that's ideal. It needs to have HDMI for my PS3. Big bonus if it has composite too (TV yay!). Has to have glossy screen ala laptop displays. (if anyone has an HP DV9500, that display is exactly what I want but in bigger form).

The last thing, is it possible to get a better rez? I'm not sure what I'm looking for scaling up from what I have but if I can, yeah, that'd be nice.

Oh and, has to have a good warranty. I may be able to get a discount, MAYBE, on Dell's so suggest any good ones there too.

Other question I have is really illogical and I know I'm going to sound like a total n00b. But... can I hook a desktop up to my laptop sometimes so that I don't have to leave my recliner?

you should try fry's, they have more monitors there then best buy, and they do have glossy ones there for sure!

We don't have Fry's here. Nebraska Furniture Mart I plan to check out though.

I've not heard anything good about Acer aside from price, brightness is a huge issue with me (probably because I'm going blind lawl). Oh and btw, on my laptop it doesn't get darker towards top/bottom like I read sometimes, it's equally bright all the way up and down, it's important cause it'd drive me nuts. Last thing I had before this was a CRT, haha.

Is every Dell, HP, and LG glossy? Man, I swear, I've looked at NFM and BB before, I don't remember any. I'm wary buying online because I can't see it but I will if the reviews are right.

I only know Apple had good BRIGHT glossy ones but $$$ sheesh.

I really liked the Dell 24" going by reviews and stuff, waiting to see if I can get a discount though on it.

Try Asus, I know at least 5 people with Asus glossy 22" or 24"s.

HP w2207

Picked one up from Tiger Direct for 279.99 after a $70 instant rebate. Glossy, 22" wide, 1680x1050, great color. The stand is decent, allows for 90 degree rotation for portrait which is FANTASTIC for reading long pages or forums, like overclock.net

Not 100% if it has HDMI or not though...

Dell's 20in is 1680X1050. I've got a buddy that picked up 2 of them and they both have glossy screens.

I know how you feel with the low resolution on desktop LCD's. My lappy is a 15.4 wtih 1680x1050, and my roommate has an even more glorious 1920x1200 15.4 screen.
