overclocking a gfx card is the easy thing you can do so why pay even 5 bucks extra.

Because OC means its a binned card. Binned cards mean they are pre-selected as quality cards for high performance and OCing. So logic would assume then, that the majority of OC cards can reach 700+ while many regular 8800s max out at 700. I have an evga 8800gt superclocked (same as the bfg 8800gt oc) and its currently at 724 and I havent even bothered to test higher. Thats a 124mhz overclock over a standard gt.

EDIT

Not to mention that at the sale price, its cheaper to get the OC edition than the vanilla one....

Thats nice, but it still doesnt change the fact that its cheaper currently due to sale to get the OC version than the vanilla.

And the 'regular' 8800gt is clocked at 600, which means either your 'regular' didnt come with a stock bios, or its a superclocked edition like mine, OR its a 256mb edition, as thats the only 8800gt shipped stock from evga with 650mhz stock. I dont know how well the 256 scales in comparison to the 512 model, which is what I was referring to.

Personally the only difference that matters a whole lot is that the alpha dog comes with CoH and the zalman version doesn't. If you don't want CoH, save the $10 and get the zalman edition, if ya wanna try CoH then grab the alpha dog edition. The zalman cooler might be a bit better than the other cooler but I have the alpha dog version and with good case airflow my temps are fine. As far as the actual card though they are identical.
