2 Monitors? - Page 5

You can't have SLI and more than 1 monitor running unless you have a dualhead2go or triplehead like me. You can do fake triplehead with softth(look it up on google). You can do span mode with a single card and it will act as one monitor, but for gaming with both, only supreme commander and other rts games would benefit from it. For FPS, it's only odd number amount of monitors.

2 Monitors makes multi tasking VERY EASY . I loved having two monitors. One for my games and the other for system monitoring utilities...Great for benching. There are so many other uses also.
Lets put it this way - i loved having MSN, XMplay, TeamSpeak, temps etc on monitor #2 while I game on #1 I bought an extra GFX card and screen and run on triple monitors now

I never really saw the purpose either unless you have smaller lcd's and doing something like dual/quad boxing in WoW.
I have 2 monitors and they both display a totally separate desktop...Ultramon is the program I use for separating them...

1x 24"
1x 20"

I will never go back to one monitor or SLI...I love my extra space...Multi-tasking 4tw...

Yeah Ultramon owns !.. Thats what used to get me down about CF or SLI is that Dual monitor is not going to happen...well without a dual head 2 go device.

Dual monitors are great but not so good for games.

1. Most games don't allow over a single screen... If they do allow over multiple screen you need 3 cause a FPS your cross hair is right where the gape between screens is.
2. Performance decrease. Don't expect great FPS at high settings on lower end cards because even if the game is only on one screen it slows the performance down having to display the other.

I'm sure there's more.

I have no idea if you've ever hear of SoftTH - it's like TH2Go, but it's a software solution requiring a second GFX card (although the spec doesn't really matter - as long as it's in a PCI-e slot with some bandwidth it'll be fine). Not as good, but you can get 2 extra monitors and a cheap second GFX card cheaper than a TH2Go.

Once you've written code on multiple monitors, you'll never go back. It sucks that I have to mess with my system to switch to sli for gaming though

Since I could afford it, and my computer (the home machine) could support it, I have always run 2 monitors (even on my SGI O2...), 4 on my Onyx deskside.

Its about the real estate baby!

On my gaming machine I have 2 monitors but never use both. It is nice to be able to have a browser open in one window and Sketchup or another program open on the other monitor. When I am working from home I have email and a browser open in one monitor and everything I am working on in the other (word, acrobat, VPN mapped disks, etc).

Remember, you can setup your card such that windows does not "see" 2 monitors, only one wide one. (or long one depending on where you set it up) So the results being displayed _are_ for the current video setup.

BTW: I have never been able to game full screen in one window without the other monitor switching off. Have not tried it in Vista yet though.
