Wel nerer tried XP 64 but i can state this. Vista X64 if over 4GB, XP x86 if 2GB and under. Vista needs memory and you got it so its Vista that you want to get. I find Vista myself heavly load in many thing including looks so that my be a downside but since u like the look that you should really go for it.

But there is a hack to make it work in XP, and it turns out, they look exactly the same. You also need Vista to crossfire or SLI more than two video cards. AFAIK, no games in the making or already out require DX10 to run, but I may be wrong. It's you're choice, really.
Considering that DX10 is now the standard it is fairly safe to assume that games will be made to utilize it. As far as I know the "hack" only works for Crysis and even then it doesn't look the same. Games like Bioshock, World in Conflict, Assassin's Creed all perform differently with DX10 enabled. A plethora of yet to be released games also benefit from it (Age of Conan, Far Cry 2, Mirror's Edge).

Again, there is no justification to PAYING for XP x64 when Vista is out.

Vista works fine with 2GB (better with 4GB of course) so I would still consider getting Vista x64 and upgrading to 4GB when you get the chance (ram is very cheap at the moment).

They are all about the same, just the costlier one has some extra features.
To me, Home Premium is good enough.
But if I were to get it, I get the priciest ones, since I might use those useless applications like the dream thingy once in my life.

Vista 64 bit without a doubt. I have it and I have to say it is very nice. Boots faster than my Ubuntu 64 bit. It is a very nice operating system...to my surprise.

I have Vista 64 bit business. I use remote desktop a lot so I needed a version with it. I don't think Vista 64 bit home has remote desktop. Not sure about the other perks.

I think an oem copy of home premium 64 should fit the bill just fine.. i'm not sure there's many necessary extras in ultimate to make it worth the cost

Of what relevance is their contributing status to OCN regarding their comments on XP x64? All three made comments to the effect of Vista 64 having more driver support than XP x64. All three have yet to provide a single example of hardware that has driver support in Vista 64, but not in XP x64.
Quote:
1) Vista is supported by Windows update and will be complemented by service packs in the future.
XP x64 is currently supported by Windows Update. It will always be supported by Windows Update, except after a point, new updates may stop being developed. XP x64 uses the Server 2003 kernel, and it basically takes the same updates. MS is not about to drop support for the previous server OS.

Quote:
2) Subjective but Vista looks better as consensus.
Can't argue there. If I was forced to use Vista, the first thing I would do is disable the themed interface and all animations.

Quote:
3) Vista's networking features are far superior to XPs.
Next to irrelevant in a home scenario and you know it. It's not any faster, if that's what you are trying to imply.

Quote:
4) Vista supports DX10 gaming.
How observant.

Quote:
5) Vista is more responsive than XP. Far more responsive.
The difference is not that large. Yes, there is a difference with superfetch, but it is still slower with 3d rendering.

Quote:
The poster whom you quoted said that Vista utilizes more of the ram. This was not fallacy on his part but true.
The context in which the word "utilized" is used in is up for interpretation. Either way you interpret it (support vs. put to use), both are wrong. XP x64 can "utilize" the the same amount of RAM as Vista, the only difference here is that Vista uses superfetch to preload your frequently used applications and such. This is something XP does not do (not in the same manor, anyway), but that is only one "use" for the RAM. The RAM can be used for anything, and just because XP x64 does not have superfetch, does not mean it is unable to use the full amount of memory.
Quote:
As far as I know the "hack" only works for Crysis and even then it doesn't look the same.
It is only for Crysis, but they look exactly the same.
Quote:
Again, there is no justification to PAYING for XP x64 when Vista is out.
Thank you for your opinion on the matter.
