Vista or XP? - Page 4

go for vista man, it's time to get used to it,
my fav was Win2000, but that doesn't do any good for me what so ever now,
they will stop support XP
and u will need to use vista more then more as software will eventually support vista more thne any other system b4 Windows 7 comes out or whatever

but do suggest Ultimate edition, why left out features if u gonna use the os

XP x64 is currently supported by Windows Update. It will always be supported by Windows Update, except after a point, new updates may stop being developed. XP x64 uses the Server 2003 kernel, and it basically takes the same updates. MS is not about to drop support for the previous server OS.

Can't argue there. If I was forced to use Vista, the first thing I would do is disable the themed interface and all animations.

Next to irrelevant in a home scenario and you know it. It's not any faster, if that's what you are trying to imply.

How observant.

The difference is not that large. Yes, there is a difference with superfetch, but it is still slower with 3d rendering.

The context in which the word "utilized" is used in is up for interpretation. Either way you interpret it (support vs. put to use), both are wrong. XP x64 can "utilize" the the same amount of RAM as Vista, the only difference here is that Vista uses superfetch to preload your frequently used applications and such. This is something XP does not do (not in the same manor, anyway), but that is only one "use" for the RAM. The RAM can be used for anything, and just because XP x64 does not have superfetch, does not mean it is unable to use the full amount of memory.
It is only for Crysis, but they look exactly the same.
Thank you for your opinion on the matter.
Let XP Die

Pushing XP at this point is basically flogging a dead horse.. Just leave it alone lol.

Why? The performance drawbacks are negligable. Never found a difference with it on or off.

Considering the prevalence of home networks these days I'd say it's hardly irrelevant.

Just thought I'd point it out considering you missed the point where he said he wanted to game and I thought DX10 was important to this.

The difference is absolutely massive. I can hardly use an XP PC now because I can't open 3-4 windows at once instantly.

We are playing technicalities here. For all intents and purposes Vista utilizes memory better than XP does. No point having so much ram if it is wasted.

There was an article on this and there are small differences. Regardless, the point is stupid because a small hack in one game is not a substitute for DX10 on any level.

XP x64 is $139 on newegg. Unless it says 64-bit, then it is the 32-bit version.

You don't have a choice if you want to run CFX.
You shouldn't even be considering XP.

Wow, only one XP troll! Damn. That's a record, and said troll has no experience prior to using Vista, as it's rather obvious. Oh and

I'm using XP 64 bit, and I am having no problems locating drivers... nvidia stuff neways, onboard audio and lan. I would suggest that either is good, cept that vista has the dx10 support which will be nice as more games come out over the coming years.

?? XP -might- be faster, but I'm not too sure (seems to be a common school of thought) since I haven't done any official benchmarks...
