DFI overclocking questions!

Thread Starter
Alright, so i have been messing with my expert motherboard for the last month or so, and cannot figure out how to get a decent OC out of my 3200+ that i am currently running while i wait for my opty 170.

I figure i would practice/learn about overclocking with this board again, before i get the opty, so i wont mess it up.

I bought the board used. It came flashed with a "merlin" bios on it. With the default setting with this bios, a lot of features are disabled. sata3 and 4, the sound, the secondary lan, among other things...

I have a 1gb kit of Giel ONE multi spec ram. I set the timings in the bios so it could handle a 300mhz clock, like it claims it can run at, at 2.5v. I have my ram volts at 2.7 with an OCZ ram cooler on it, so i know this isn't an issue.

So i start my overclocking session by upping the FSB by 20mhz. no vcore adjustments, or ram dividing. Core running at 220mhz, and the ram running at 220mhz. core volts at 1.35 and ram at 2.7v.

these setting are not stable. I can boot into windows, but after like 2 hours, i get strange service failure notifications within vista. Things like super fetch failed or random windows service failures. Should my 3200+ run at 2.2ghz with 1.35vcore? Should i mess around with the HT link? i have it at auto right now...

Any advice on what settings to look at to obtain a decent OC? I'm running a aluminum cooler master OEM style heat sink at the moment, that does little to no improvement over a stock cooler. my idle temps at stock clocks and v settings are 47c on the core. So I'm thinking that this may be an issue. I feel the chip is running way hot for stock clocks.

I have two 3200+ chips. one with and one without an IHS. both run at about the same temps, and both wont post at anything higher than 230fsb, and it is far from stable, on both chips, at stock vcore.

Ive tried re-seating the HSF, have AS5 in it. 47c idle is the best temps i can get out of this thing... Bot chips preform about the same crap OC ability, so my thinking is that i don't know this board well enough to get a decent clock out of it...

Insight?

Should i flash the bios to the latest factor bios? or keep the merlin?

Point me in the right direction guys.... I'm kind of an Intel guy, so this integrated memory controller thing is kinda strange for me...

Thanks.

i think its better use the normal bios the last one from your motherboard manufacture for that.
use the lowest multiplier on memory and on hypertransport 4x multiplier
on the volt. use auto
try to o.c. 5/10 mhz steps
