Ok i'm getting basically a new pc. which is CODE + in my profile. and i'm wondering if those specs could overclock that Q6600 to 3.0 or 2.9ghz. I heard the zerotherm nirvanas were good. basically my pc right now shouldn't be alive. its a miracle that this piece of junk athlon 2800+ is still running at 70 degrees celsius. but it has sudden hiccups from time to time where the computer stops working. but it can basically run any app at full speed . like h264 codecs and photoshop and such

Are you asking if a Q6600 can hit 3ghz? Yes it can. Most go up to 3.4ghz - 3.6ghz.

You lost me with this whole "CODE +" thing.

heh thats the name of my pc. but i was wondering if those specs would overclock that badboy safely.. all in all a new pc basically cost me $640. because i heard that zerotherm keeps that cpu pretty cool. and those OCZ reapers are used for overclocking too the stock cas settings is 4-4-4-15 is that good?. but unfortunatly i dont have watercooling.

A 780i could get a Q6600 up to 3.6ghz no problem.

No idea about Nirvana hitting 3.6GHz.

Make sure that you are getting a SLACR/G0 stepping Q6600. This steppings runs cooler, overclocks better and can endure up to 72C max load over the B3 stepping which has a 60C max load.

With my experience with my Q6600, I have easily reached 3.31GHz with stock cooling while keeping it at around 72C ~ 74C max load.

Getting 3.6 is possible, but it may vary.

it will help over stock, but how much i do not know. I have gotten my q6600 to 3.6 stable. Check out this link for overcloking your board and chip.

http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...-possible.html

If i were you, i might get a TRUE or a different cooler. There are a few coolers for sale on the threads.

EDIT: Nevermind that cooler looks good. you should not have any issue getting to 3.0 or 3.2. Check if you have a G0 revision.

download CPU-Z and check what revision you have. There a different Revisions (steppings) of CPU's. The G0 consumes less energy and OC's better.
