As with any sound card, that depends on two things. The quality of the recording, and the quality of your speakers/headphones.

The main difference comes into play with surround sound audio, like when watching a DVD or playing a game. Those two cards support a native bitrate of up to 24bit@192khz in 5.1 or greater, while the cheaper versions only support that in 2 channel mode. In 5 channel mode, they can't get any higher than 96khz.

Just read the article I linked

Thanks for the reply. I'll be sure to read the article. I always use headphones (JVC FX-66) for my iPod and for listening to stuff from my comp, for me at least.

Most of my MP3s are in 128bit with some 192/320bit songs here and there. I suppose the higher the bit rate the more of a difference the sound card makes, correct?

--Edit--
After reading the article I did learn a couple of things. Although actual multi-speaker setups are better than the surround sound for headphones thing, I don't really need a multi-speaker set up, nor do I want one. My earphones will do me just fine. I find the headphone surround sound effect to be good enough for me. I always use earphones because they're more convenient for me since I can take them anywhere.

If I got the Platinum while it was on sale, it would be cheaper than the Xtreme Music that I would be getting. I would be getting a better card for cheaper, even though I won't be utilizing the superior capabilities that the Platinum has over the Xtreme Music. I'll probably try to get the Platinum first because it just seems like the smarter choice.

It was a long and complicated read. I did get some things out of it though.

What do you mean cheaper versions? Cheaper versions of X-fi cards like the Xtreme Audio?

I will be using ASIO through Foobar 2000 and was wondering if ASIO supports 192khz. I'm still learning about ASIO and Foobar 2000 and it's functions though.

Yes. And I'm glad the article helped

Also, check this out. It shows you how to mod an x-fi so that it gives off better sound quality. In case you are interested.

I'll mod the X-Fi when the warranty is expired since I'm going to get a Refurb'd music or platinum off of the Creative store. I don't want to deal with Ebay to get a card.

I bookmarked the link for future purposes.

Danggggg, I opted for ~4-8 day shipping and it's shipping from the same city I'm in. That's awesome. The tracking thing says it's already out for delivery. Woo, only took it a day to get here pretty much. I was going to cancel the Xtreme Music order for the Platinum today but oh well. I get a great card reguardless! (I think I mis-spelled reguardless.)

So you guys would recommend the XtremeMusic? I never bought a soundcard before. I am using my stock Gigabyte one but I believe I can be listening to better quality music. I plan on getting a z5500 in the future so would the XtremeMusic be a good choice? Thanks. And how much better is the platinum to the XtremeMusic?
