Which heatsink to choose? :)

Thread Starter
Sorry I know this question gets asked constantly but I just wanted to get some input from the general public...

I'm putting together a budget PC, hopefully cheap and overclockable, with the following:

Gigabyte EP35-DS3L LGA 775 mobo
E2180 Allendale 2.0GHz cpu
2x 1GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 ram (extra I have lieing around)
EVGA GeForce 8800GS Superclocked 384MB 192-bit
(thinking of 2 for SLI but that will really ruin the budget part huh? )
Antec earthwatts EA500 500W 12V v2.0 psu
Scrapping a case, DVD drive and 80GB 7200RPM HDD from an old machine (both IDE)

ANYWAY, I'm trying to decide what cooler to get. I have the Zalman 9700 in my current PC (see sig). I like it okay, but have had some problems and more importantly it barely fits in my build.

I have seen good reviews here for the Tuniq Tower and...ahh...a couple other ones...What do you guys think would be best?

Thanks!

Depends on the size of your case.
I have the Vendetta 2 (which has plenty of clearance-41mm) ram and nb

I will more than likely be leaving the case open, so that shouldn't be an issue. The size problems I've had are in relation to other hardware (like on my sig rig, the Zalman BARELY fits in next to my northbridge heatsink).

Possibly consider a Noctua NH-U12P? I grabbed a TRUE, but this was defineatly my second choice.

9500A FTW! its a little smaller than the 9700 and maintains the Zalman tradition of kicking BigWater's ass with a fan (F*** waterblocks...)

Xigmatek HDT-S1283 currently is has the best bang for buck. It's one of the top heatsinks but it's very affordable.
