How bad is the 8800gs compared to the 8800GT.

***Just so you know i have used the search button and the posts i found were very outdated.

So i hit a wall when i was ordering my PC build Today, i decided to go with the Zotac Amp 8800GT, but after rebates it came out to $649!!! Which was way more then i was expecting, since i didn't think shipping would be $40, im used to online sites giving free shipping after $100-200.

So now my dilema is this, For $536, i can have my build with a EVGA 8800GS, which overclocks to 700Mhz core and 2200Mhz ram, Or fore $601 i can have the Zotac AMP 8800GT. So is $60 really worth it, especially since every couple of months there is a new video card series coming out. I will bearly be playing games on this PC, the onjly games i will like to try are gears of war, world in conflict and age of empires 3, maybe some flight simulator.

My build contains the following
DFI P35 DK
E7200 w/ pro freezer 76, hoping to achieve 3.6-3.8 Ghz
OCZ StealthXStream 600 watt v2.2 PSU
OCZ reaper DDR2 1150Mhz

Now i was planning on using old P-ATA hard drives and cd drives, and a usb hd dvd player. But it came to my intention the slow harddrives would slow down the PC so i am planning on getting a cheap $35 SATA 80GB harddrive

So will i be happy with a 8800GS, right now im gaming on a P4 2.8Ghz 1GB 300Mhz ram and a radeon 9600Pro. I am in highschool and i mainly game on the xbox 360. I have $400 to spend and im getting $200 for my birthday, but my parents arent liking the $600 price tag.

*Also keep in mind with the EVGA 8800GS i can use the $90 in their step up program and it has a life time waranty, the Zotac only has a 3 year warranty with no step up program

Prices
8800GS w/ no HDD-$536
8800GS w/ 80GB---$573
8800GS w/ 160GB--$583
8800GT w/ no HDD-$601
8800GT w/ 80GB---$639
8800GT w/ 160GB--$649

Which country are you from because those prices seem hyper inflated. I wouldn't pay more than $120 for the 8800GS or $180 for the 8800GT. Also, the 8800GS is probably 20% worse than the 8800GT in performance.

those prices are the entire build
$154 for the 8800GT
$90 for the 8800GS

Also do you think the OCZ reaper memory will collide with the 8800GS in the DFI DK p35, because of its added heatspreaders? Also how much better is DDR2 1150 then DDR2 800? since the dr2 1150 is $40 and the DDR2 is $20

He means the full system price with each card. If you barely game at all, then it really doesn't matter. But the 8800GS might choke a bit if you are using a 20"+ monitor.

19" 1440x900 monitor, but then again im used to a P4 with a radeon 9600Pro.
Im just wandering if the 8800GS can handle gears of war and flight simulator at 1440x900

Also will i actually notice a defference between DDR2 1150 and DDR2 800?

There would be a slight difference but where is DDR21150 only 40 bucks?

It won't matter how long it is, the ram slots are safely out of it's way. And I reckon the GS would do you fine.
