[Newegg] 3870x2 w/ GDDR4 spotted. - Page 2

Had a huge argument with a member over this card just not too long ago.

I personally don't like that cooler at all. It will dump tons of heat into the case, not worth the extra performance in IMO.

But I have a feeling that PowerColor isn't the only company that will make this card. So for the ones that wants the gddr4, just wait a little bit, and plus with x4xxx on the horizon, 3870x2 will probably drop in price.

I think there was some stories that said this gddr4 version had an updated PLX bridge that was PCI-E 2.0 compatible.

I have no Proof tho.

EDIT: I AM WRONG. This card does have a shorter PCB and Only requires 2 6 pin connectors

And Most GDDR4 can hit 2600mhz. Mine does 2700mhz

i dont think performance would even increase that much. GDDR4 is somewhat useless? performance gain is negligible.

kinda true, the speed jump from GDDR3 to GDDR4 isn't as big as GDDR4 to GDD5. But any speed points counts

problem with these cards is not their under performing but brand exclusive cards (eg. ASUS Hd 3850x2/x3, Sapphire x1950PRO DUAL) are always released soooo late that the next generation of cards is just a tip off these releases. i was sad the x1950PRO DUAL was released so late, performance wise was like a shy 8800GTX, would have stopped all over the 7950 GX2 but released after the 8800 series... bad timing.

Same here for this product, the gap between the Hd 3870x2 would be just slightly less than the 9800GX2. Overclocked to 2700mhz memory would have been something to wow about.

Maybe another upside to this card would be for a Trifire setup /w a GDDR4 3870. Matching memory clocks/configuration might lead to better scaling.

My computer would say other wise. It likes the GDDR4 @ 2744Mhz much better then the old GDDR3 it had @ 1400MHz

What kind of increases did you see in games?

Went from Medium @ 1024x768 to High @ 1280x1024 in Crysis. Gameplay is smooth except for certain times when heavy loading is needed but my cpu doesn't help much there. Can max everything that uses the Source Engine with full AA and AF too! So very helpful. All the games are played @ stock GPU speeds too so 800/2300.
