Ram missing???

Thread Starter
Hello,

I need some help finding some missing ram in my computer. I have 2 x 256mb modules and a 1 x 512mb module. when I look at the system properties, it only states that I have 768mb, but when I run CPU-Z I see the full 1gb. Can anyone explain to me why this is? Has this anything to do with the dual channel i have set up with the 2 x 256mb?

Thank you,
Jinx

Did you check the ram slots? Maybe they're hiding in your cpu heatsink.

Is the 512 the same as the 2x 256MB's? (ex: PC3200)

i remember on my athlon 64 3700+, if i had 3 sticks of ram, it wouldnt read from one of the ram slots. i also remember there being an inherent problem with some of the socket 754 processors not being able to handle more than 2 slots of ram.

it probably has something to do with windows not reading the ram, and not a physical problem if cpu-z can read it.

nope, it doesn't have anything to do with me setting up the first pair as dual channel and just adding on the last 512mb module?
Perhaps, but I dont see how, as it still recognizing the 512 stick. Maybe post a CPU-Z shot of your memory banks etc so we can see which sticks are being detected. Have you tried reseating the ram and/or different slots? If you take out the 512 do the 2x256 detect fine? have you tried JUST the 512?

put the 512mb in slot 0, then put the 2 x 256mb in slots 2 and 3. Then it should acknowledge all the ram
