well that was an experiment that actually worked in my case.

i flipped the fan on the back so it pushes air in the same direction as the AC7 fan and it lowered my temps by 2c on idle. I have the exhaust fan right above it so it sucks the hot air out nicely.

I have no idea what ISA is so sorry i cant answer that

thunder_2008: I think i understand what your saying so I think i'm gonna go ahead and at least order a NB cooler for now since there pretty cheap and it couldn't hurt.

Hey Whip...while this link is for the Asus Maximus se:http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...?t=162085...it is a reflection of all mb n/s bridge temps....just to further make the cause for the stability issue.

Anyways...I'm working my way up to 35...just putting that out there

For a aggressive overclock..you should at least have some sort of active cooling on the NB.

I wouldn't worry too much about the SB..it doesn't really get very hot.

At least the sb does not get as hot at oc'ing at that range...but for pro 3Dmark06 benches it can get really hot...requiring some serious cfm...or other cooling...when above 4Ghz...any active cooling can allow better performance...

But as stated not needed unless your pushing 5Ghz+envelopes'.

Actually, the higher the temps, the more resistance there is in a circuit, and that means less Volts, resulting in less Volts to the CPU, resulting in less stable performance.

Exactly...thus it does effect performance...though varing dependant upon settings...and other variables...case temp.,mb temp, cpu, chipsets, etc.

I always would remind people that our computers while quite different than our cars' engines are similar in that the higher the performance the higher the temps the less performance unless the temps are kept in check.

All guys should be able to understand this no???

south bridge is mainly raid controller so if youre not doing any raid array it should be fairly cool in comparison to the north bridge which is involved with basically everything

I have 4 HD's in Raid 0 lol. Would be on fire if it weren't for the good overall cooling. The SB block on my 780i is pretty much just a chunk of aluminium, hidden under an 8800GT.

I have two hdd in 0...and my sb temps usually are 1 or 2 degrees hotter than the nb...as the nb is fusion wc'd. I will need in the future to buy two wc blocks.

One for the north & another for the south as the Maximus northbride wc block is one piece. In order for sb wc'ing I need to remove it.

The trick is to buy universal wc blocks...so that in the future they can fit onto new mbs' and be used for yrs instead of the 18months or less between new mb designs.

Same goes for graphics card water blocks...one of the reason that I have not yet bought two 3870X2 water blocks...seeing as how the new 4870X2s' are about to come out shortly after the 4000 series release later this month.

While the 4870X2 will still have only 2-cores like the 3870X2...the components on the board maybe so different that one would have to cut a 3870X2 waterblock in order for it to fit(not good).
