you get a higher multi on the extreme which will result in higher overclocking ability bassically it will outperform the 6700 by miles

If you have an unlimited money supply take this (for gaming):

MB: eVGA nForce 790i Ultra SLI
GPU: 3x eVGA nVidia 280 GTX (new series, will be released the 15th I think, correct me if I'm wrong).
CPU: Intel QX9770 + ThermalRight Ultra Extreme 120mm
Mem: 8GB (4x2) Corsair Dominators 1600Mhz+
HDD: 2x (or more) Western Digital VelociRaptors @ Raid0
KB: Logitech UltraX
Mon: Samsung 24" 5ms
Sound: Asus Xonar D2
PSU: Be Quiet Darkpower Pro 1000W+
Case: Some Lian-Li you like
DVD: Pick one
Mouse: Whichever high-end mouse that fits in your hand

You could also swap those VelociRaptors for a Solid State Disk (or more) if you want very fast (0.1ms) access times on your harddisk(s).

no but seriously the larger cores are coming out (6 or 8 cores) so why spend 1k on a quad.

because they will no doubt be very very very expensive and he will end up spending less on this than buying a 6700 then another cpu a few months down the line

we are trying to save him money and get the best performance that set up wouldnt give much more performance than a cheaper one for what he wants it for
