you know what? It's about time for Microsoft to do some pioneering instead of just stealing the idea from Apple.

I'd personally love to see windows come out with an OS that leans more heavily on gaming rather than general usage. all the extra crap that comes with windows just eats up resources, leaving less for your games. IMHO, the most "clean" version of windows was WIN95/98. after that they kept adding features that most people never use or end up turning off [if possible].

The fact that something uses less memory because of more efficient coding does not mean it will suck.
I believe he is talking about how Vista uses spare memory which is not in use as a cache. Which is the whole reason Vista uses more memory. Without superfetch Vista will actually use the same amount of RAM as XP.

And SentryOptic, I hope you are joking.

In my opinion Windows seven isn't that big of deal though. If you boil it down to the basics, it's mostly just a new GUI.
Apparently you've never used vista, at least on a machine that meets requirements.

Mostly a new GUI? Did you read that on an Apple forum? Windows 7 is being completely re-written with a new kernel. Maybe you should go back to using MSDOS since Windows is just a GUI for it /sarcasm.

And back we go to the vista memory hog complaint.

When will people learn something huh? After countless tests and reviews showing and proving that vista does not "hog" memory at all, it just utilises it differently and as others have said here when everything is disabled so it runs the same as xp, it uses the same amount of memory as xp.

The "all thats different is the gui" whine also bugs me. Just because you dont see the kernal and all the internal operatings of the os doesnt mean they arnt there. Vista is a massive improvement over xp. There is no reason at all why I would use xp now.

Rant over.

Half of you have been living under a rock AND STILL don't know what superfetch is.

I say the former @ people who say "it'll just be a GUI change/ZOMG tey shuldn't stealz their stuffz from *apple*."
Because, It's already been stated numerous times that this will be a whole new kernel and will be built from the ground up, (specifically, in that thread about how it will have to emulate XP/vista programs due to the new code.)

I say the latter @ the people who still say "ZOMG VIStA IS a MEMhoG!!1!"
Here: http://www.google.com/search?q=Superfetch

One of the features I did like in vista was the fact that you can uninstall your Video card drivers, than vista will switch it to A no driver display (the one that you get when you don't install your Video card drivers). This way I can uninstall my drivers, Clean the drivers. Install them and restart.

Another great thing is that the graphics driver is seperate from the kernel. So when the graphics driver crashes (the most common cause of a game crash that locks your system) it simply restarts and windows is fine.

Did you read the article, or even the whole OP before posting?

Quote:
Recent revelations from Microsoft have suggested that Windows 7 will be far more evolutionary than its radical predecessor; this was confirmed by last night's demonstration. [...]

This might not be such a problem were it for the fact that Vista fails to make any significant use of these new features. Plenty of pain—no real gain. To remedy this, Windows 7 is being pushed as a release that will consolidate on the ground-work laid by Vista. Windows 7 will not introduce any radical overhaul of core operating system subsystems; instead, it will leverage the new features introduced as part of the Vista release.
Early rumors indicated a radical change (moving to a microkernel was among them), but this has turned out not to be true.
