$2500 comptuer budget... help me out - Page 3

EDITTED:
Updated Grand Total: $2110.28 WITHOUT MOBO
If your friend think these air cooling stuff are just too annoying, go for water cooling.

**Some strengths compared to other suggestions that were posted:
  1. Best case for OC because TONS of cooling.
  2. Best OC mobo manufacturer because of its awesome bios.
  3. Best Memory producer especially for OC.
  4. Some additional fans that I listed are very neccessary for your friend's budget system. Reasons: a. Tuniq's stock fan is too ancient; b. GPUs tends to run really hot.

If some link doesn't work or know better selection, just post here.

Yea, sorry about that. I really recommend DFI mobos, though. They are the best for oc. I really like mine. Newegg is out of stock for that. So, if you wanna buy SLI compatible DFI, the LANPARTY UT NF680i LT SLI-T2R, just search for it on google.

I second the DFI boards. They are amazing.

Vista Home Premium is garbage, you can't do any networking on it. I dunno if your friend is into that, but Vista 64bit Business would be better as it has more capabilities in case he ever wants to do any significant networking with other computers.

And I don't really see the point of getting the q6700, it's not really that overclockable price/performance wise compared to the q6600. He would be better off spending a little more on an SSE4 quadcore.

And an Acer Monitor? Bleck. Get a Samsung T220.

please. don't be an idiot. this is OVERCLOCK.NET. Here, 6600>6700. And unless you have phase, 6600 overclocked does usually max out at or above a 6700 overclocked.

add a 9800gtx. still FAR cheaper than your rig

8GB of ram is retarded. this guy is not running VM's, and there is absolutely no other possible use for 8GB other than exaggerated overkill that you might be able to come up with for the sake of argument.

Add a 36GB raptor and use RAID 0. Less than $100, still much cheaper than your build, and WAY faster than RAID 0 on a couple 7.2k SATA drives

the X-Fi XM is more than enough.

PSU is better, look at your amperages, not the whole watt total. Otherwise I'd post two cheap ass 500W PSU's and say I beat your 800W...

D-Tek Fuzion - $60
MCR-320 - $40
3-120mm Fans - $20
Tubing,Clips, etc - $10
MCRES - $25
Hydor L35 - $40

That's how. That's not even $200. You can add another MCR-320 and a GPU block for a CPU/GPU inclusive loop. Or you can use a better pump like the MCP-655

Ya, samsung is fine too. And I do agree with a fact that Q6600 is better OC processesor, but you know, Q6700 is more newer version and many people still like them. So, it's your friend's choice.

1.)6700>6600 in any situation, to say that the 6600 is better than the 6700 is just insanity.
2.)2 8800gts 512's RAPE a single 9800gtx noob
3.)yes 8 gigs of ram is for show, so what?
4.)you want the guy to put two 35 gig raptors in raid 0 for 70gigs that go SLIGHTLY faster than 1tb of 500gigs in raid... for like 20 bucks less? two 500 gig seagates is 160 bucks man.
5.)creative drivers suck
6.)the corsair 750w is overkill if anything for this comp and and only 100 bucks on buy last time i checked the pc and power 610 is louder and more expensive for less watts and a Little bit more performance in amperages.
7.)That loop suxorz
