1st time Overclocker here

Thread Starter
I was thinking about overclocking my Intel Core2Duo 2.6ghz E4700. I have never overclocked anything even I been reading up on it a little. What i mostly want to know is how high can I get it without gettin very high temps with my set up. Also would it really be worth it to overclock my computer runs fast. I Spent around 750$(with shipping) and im kinda out of money so i really dont want to brake anything. I kinda understand how it works Im Still not 100% sure if i want to do it and how hard it will be. My goal would be to just get it around 3ghz without a Temp change if i can. If anyone knows any real good SIMPLE guide on overclocking that would help very much.

Thank you for any help. Im new to this forum and Overclocking.

Mike

getting up to 2.8 or 3.0 should not be an issue for you, especially with aftermarket cooling on that CPU.

*EDIT*
you can Use CPU-Z and THIS to see your CPU's max spec temp. Its usually a good idea to just go by those for a max temp, at least thats my opinion......

Honestly, 3.2 should be easy for you..

follow the intel C2D oc guide and disable the things it recommends.. then up ur FSB a little at a time til it becomes unstable. Add a little more voltage and repeat...

You should get 3.4Ghz maybe even more, I just came off a very rare good E4500 which is based on the M0 stepping and it was stable at 3.4Ghz @ 1.36v and 3.5Ghz 1.47v, E4700 is said to be based on G0 stepping which is supposed to be "better" than M0 and they might even have a soldered IHS (not positive). With good cooling I see you at 3.4Ghz+ at <1.40v.
