the price is too high, IMO

nVidia may be the faster performers in single card settings, but they can't afford to be trying to flog their products to the consumer at such high prices, while taking the mick with the 9 series rebranding that they love doing. especially with their poor drivers... I'll be going ATi for me birthday - can';t wait to go back to the red team . (should never have left, really)

If nvidia has any common sense, they will work quickly to discontinue the 8800GT and GTS (G92). Given that they give great performance and are very cheap, they are likely going to hurt sales. I bet they have dented 9800gtx sales significantly.

They usually do just that to squeeze the market for $$$, some thing they are also very good at.

If Nvidia is smart, they would stop selling them when the 9800GT comes out. If they keep pushing the price down to keep them competitive they aren't going to make money from selling them anyway. By keeping them on the market, they're really only competing with their own 9-series (which they're probably making more money on) because any budget gamer that does their research will find that the HD4850 will likely be the much better performance/price deal if the price ends up ~$200.

It looks like like that includes a 19% tax(inkl. 19 % MwSt. zzgl.). If so, almost 100 Euros of that $600 is purely tax.

G92 8800GTS has already been made EOL, and as soon as the last remaining inventories are depleted it will be gone from retail(mostly). I believe nVidia plans on keeping the 8800gt around a bit longer, and G92b(55nm G92) will come out some time after GT200. Nvidia is off it's rocker(IMHO).

ATI's new lineup won't cost that much more and provide better performance than the outgoing G92 line from all reports out there. G92's time is up... in fact...G92's time was up the minute most everyone else realized it was just a veiled attempt to sell the G80 as a die-shrunk something new, when it was really just an also-ran.
