Wal-mart's new PCI cards --- what's the situation, sir? - Page 2

ouch. im sorry you have to go to wal-mart to buy video cards.

about ati being doomed... i think not, i think they are on the way up again. well see if nvidia gets some footing with their gtx 280.

about the mentioned cards, i think they are rather expensive, most definitely not worth those prices at all. but if you need it and have the money, by all means get it.

Actually, FX5500's aren't bad at all. Although the x1300 is better. It's up to you. And I'm just gonna go "" on the FX5500 playing medium settings...

does this gateway have a AGP slot of is it strictly PCI?
i dont even think getting a new card for that system is worth it...its probably the cpu thats bottle-necking the resources...audiosurf is a cpu intensive game, barely even needs gpu processing

I'd go with the X1300...the 2400 would be crippled by your CPU...
i have a Ti4200 i can mail you... its an 8x agp card tho. you need to check if your agp can run 8x cards...

But if you are serious about the pci cards, you can always get one from walmart, and return it in a month or so when you get your main rig back...

online is not an option. I have no debit card and no bank account to link to a paypal, and I don't want to wait the week it takes to do the paypal BS. I want one of these cards. And this is probably AGP 2x anyhow. Wal-mart is what I got, and PCI is what they got. I know two people who have PCI fx-5500's and play Oblivion on medium settings. Just seeing what all the buzz is about these cards.
Paypal accepts money order, I ordered with money order 2 times, it works.

Do not spend money on a PCI video card. Especially if it is more than $100. Heck I just sold one of my old system:

2.8ghz Pentium 4 /w HT
2gig of DDR400
SIS chipset Mobo that has OC options
120gig IDE HD
EVGA 7800GS
Case + 400W PS

All for $100 dollars. Take some time and live with the terrible FPS until you can find a decent AGP system. There's always someone out there who's too happy with their new system that they could care less about their old system. Check Craig's list and local newspaper classifieds.

Or put together an AGP system slowly. Someone even offered to send you his AGP video card earlier. That's $money$ saved right there.

**Edit** This is just an example. 3 mobo for $25, one is an AGP board.
