Gentoo on PS3

Thread Starter
If anybody is familiar with Gentoo whick package do I need to download to install gentoo on my PS3. I am not very familiar with Gentoo but I figured I would give it a shot on my PS3 before going to my PC. If anyone has any tips on what I also need to put it on my PS3 I would much appreciate it.

Ever used any Linux distro before? If not, Gentoo is the absolute worst choice for a beginner.

The versions of Linux that the PS3 can use are limited since the architecture of the Cell processor is not the same as the one most distros of Linux are coded for. I'm not sure about Gentoo... Check if there's a PowerPC version for it.

From Wikipedia:

Quote:
Debian, Fedora 8, Gentoo, OpenSuSE and Ubuntu can be run on the PlayStation 3. Yellow Dog Linux for the PlayStation 3 was first released for the PS3 in late 2006.
Also:

Quote:
Linux supports PlayStation 3 since 2.6.21, so no patches or modifications are required for it to run.
Taking all of that into account, any distro that uses the 2.6.21 or later kernel (most all of them do) should run.

There is a version of Yellow Dog Linux that is made just for the PS3. You might look into that. If you decide against that, Ubuntu would be next on my list.

I just looked up yellow dog linux and it costs $99 and requires an HDtv which I do not have. Do all linux versions require an HD connection?
