The card is probably bad. I had an extremegamer for a day or two, it would be in/out of devicemanager, never played any music or anything but did scare the hell out of me 1 or twice when it just played total static for brief moments. Maybe its crewed up. Already was returned once right. I dont think i will buy another creative product again. I have been disapointed too many times. Good Luck man, sounds like the card is screwy to me.

***FIXED***

This is so easy to do. I just figured it out.

- Go to the Control Panel.
- Go to Device Manager
- Go to Sound, video and game controllers.
- On the drop down menu your sound card and the realtek onboard should appear.

- Right-click the realtek onboard
- Select disable

Do not uninstall it as it will reinstall after the computer restarts. Just disable it.

Restart the computer after disabling it and you should be good to go.

When I put it into another PCI slot it did absolutely nothing, literally. The card wouldn't be read or detected. The computer thought that there was nothing in the PCI slot I tried.

Haha, same. I'll stay away from Creative stuff unless it's the only alternative. I've been thinking about RMAing the card. Hopefully they'll replace it. Sucks that they had to discontinue this card.

Glad to see someone beat this problem in the face . That doesn't seem to fix my problem though. I'll try everything again just for good measure.

Make sure that you disable onboard sound in your motherboard's BIOS. After that boot to Windows and download CCleaner if you don't already have it. Run the cleaner and scan for registry issues. Fix and remove any issues that are found. Then go into the Device Manager and Control Panel and remove/uninstall everything that is related to your sound card/onboard sound. Run CCleaner again. Restart. Windows will detect new hardware but do not let it install anything on its own. Then try to do a fresh full install from the CD. Just let the installer run, don't try using your PC while its working. Sounds bad I know but this is Creative that we're talking about here...

I feel your pain. I went through a myriad of countless problems with Creative and their drivers and software. I always ended up doing the above steps whenever I had a problem. To those of you that have said to never install hardware from a CD, you have probably never experienced any of the problems that countless people have had with Creative products. I cannot express my disgust in words and I almost wish that I didn't buy this Auzen Prelude which happened to replace my old XtremeMusic. Anyway, hope this helps!

Thanks! I managed to stop the BSODs and the lock ups (so far). I did the registry cleaning and had 350+ things to fix the first time. That cleaned up the lock up sand BSODs.

--Edit--
I also disabled the Azailia audio option in the BIOS.

After a marathons worth of restarts and uninstalls, I went through the Installation CD, edited installation CD ISO, and the downloaded drivers off of the Creative site. I actually got a BSOD in the middle of the manufacturer CD install. The ISO didn't work since some of the registry things didn't copy over. The downloaded driver works! No problems. Except....

I still get the "This device can not start properly (Code 10)" thing. That seems to be the only problem left so far.

I might end up RMAing the card.

+Rep for helping me get rid of lock ups and BSODs! Thanks again! Just have to deal with this code 10 thing and then I think I'm home free!

When I put it into other PCI slots, the computer thinks that the PCI slot doesn't have something plugged into it. The card only works on one PCI slot unless I have to uninstall drivers, do some long process of cleaning drivers/registry, put it into different slot, then go start up the computer and reinstall everything again in order to get it to work in other PCI slots.

I'm going to go try that.....
