E8400 Degradation 4.5 -> 3.6 Ghz - Page 4

post #31 of 91
Yeah, since these chips are now on a 45nm fabrication process you're gonna have to leave behind your Q6600 days with high voltages and go a lot lower, or you'll kill the chip plain and simple.

Is it only with E8400-E8500 ?
Cause i have an E8200 , normally rock stable @ 4Ghz with 1.4 V , but now i only reach 3.0 Ghz ...
Or is it maybe because i have 4x1 GB ...

Damn you're stupid.

Don't exceed 1.36-1.38 on 45nm duals!!!

And you put how much through it?

I don't think you have ruined the CPU, I think the VRM circuitry on the motherboard is at fault, this happened to me with a E6750 at 1.71v. But I do think 1.65v for 45nm 24/7 is way over the limit... I would never go above 1.5v. The 45nm CPUs do have a short burn in (about a week) where they will need a .05-.1 increase in voltage for the same speed, but after that they seem to level off.

45nms have survived 1.8v+ on phase with no ill effects.

I ran 1.48 for hours and hours on my e8400 never no degreation either, maybe a good 2 months use at that vcore at 4.6

also I currently have my qx9650 at 1.41 for 24.7 and I run this machine 24.7 and ive had the chip a good 2 weeks. I dunno if its help though but vdroop is bad on my mobo it drops to 1.355 system only stable to 3.9 at 1.41 before vdroop. I know my chip need 1.380 for 4.0 but vdroop isnt helping
