thats nothing i seen a guy running 1.992v through a e8500 at 6.2ghz for 3dmark (phase or ln2 of course)

The "vcore2" in speedfan is actually your RAM voltage--which is just about right. Reads the same way on my board. No worries, just how the pre-configured labels in speedfan are laid out (which you can change to reflect the correct things being read).

Why do you think Intel had 65nm with a vcore limit near 1.5, but once the 45nm CPU's ame out it dropped to 1.3625v? The higher the voltage range they can use, the more CPU's they can sell. (as in, more of the poorer batches can be cranked up to run the stock speeds and stay intact throughout the warranty period.)

I am happy that your CPU has been running fine. But you have in no way proven that degradation doesn't occur or that higher vcore does not accelerate it.



edit: I am at work now, but I plan on reading the entire anandtech article and the XS thread when I have mroe time. We'll see if my thoughts change then....)
Sorry to say, you're wrong, and he's right. Yes, electron migration is real; however, the time it takes to occur, and the damage it causes are EXTREMELY overblown by many overclockers, as are the very low voltages that are claimed to cause it.

VTT is what you need to look out for, and even on quads, it makes very little difference. My Q9450 is stable at 475x8 with 1.5 vcore, and 1.25 VTT (stock). Increasing the VTT does absolutely nothing for me.

Ive had 1.48v running through my 8400 for a few months now... jsut waiting for it to die.. Seems like it may be starting to crap out on me finally but I can still run orthos all night.

Im thinking an e8600 is in order. As soon as this one dies
