65nm Quad or 45nm Quad

Thread Starter
Hai Gais, I Was Wondering Which Quad Core Would be Best For me... I Was Thinking of Getting Either a Q6600 or Q6700 but then i saw the new 45nm q9300. Now when i saw a 45nm Core i Imediatly Though hey Sounds like the Quad Core Version of an E8400 Right? Wrong Apperantly Mobo's Cant Handle The FSB To clock those 45nm Quad cores at high speeds. the New 45nm Cant Take alot of Voltage Either... So This Is where you Guys Come in. Which Quad Core would Oc the Best in the End? Im Also Considering Xeon Server Cpus but im not sure how to set them up.... Do They Need Special Memory? or are they the same as The Other desktop cpus?

The Q6600 apparently OCers better than a Q9300. My friend has basically the same system than my family system (Q6600) and the has a Q9300. I can OC to 3.6Ghz on air but he has problems going past 3Ghz

Well, the 45nm chips are very sensitive to high voltages, but they run fast with those low volts. You just need to be careful.

From what I hear, the best 45nm quad out is the QX9650...and that's ungodly expensive. I think that you'd be best off with a Q6600 or Q6700. They're cheap *enough* and OC really well. They can take quite a beating, all you need to do is be sure you have above average CPU cooling to counter-act the high volts that they need to reach sky-high OCs.

Based on your description, you are looking for a quad for better OC so 65nm quad is the way to go. I could not see your location. If you are in US, the OEM Q6700 is $239 after paypal deal at Compusa.
