nVidia 8200

Thread Starter
Hi Lads,

I recently got an nVidia Geforce 8200 in a computer package i bought.. thinking an 8 series sli would be a pretty good deal.... but as it turns out its pretty dire and i have to run all the games on the lowest settings.... so i was just wondering if and how i can twin this with another graphics card? and if so what graphics card should i / can i get?

Any help or information would be much appreciated

Thanks in Advance

I don't believe the 8200 can do SLI. I think it's 8400 and up. You probably could have spent the same money on one 8600GTS as you would 2 8200 with much more performance.

it says it does on nvidia webby i think -> "NVIDIA GeForce 8200 offers the latest support of Hybrid SLI Technology, DirectX10 graphics features"...

The 8200 appears to be an integrated graphics chip on your motherboard. So you can't do regular SLI with it as you need 2 discrete cards.

It can do hybrid SLI though.

SLI (normal) = 2 identical cards. - decent boost in performance

Hybrid SLI = 1 card + your onboard chip -marginal boost, limited choice of cards.

If you want to try it, You can pair it with a 8500 GT or 8400 GS only (according to the nvidia site). These aren't fantastic cards though, and even with the added 'boost' won't give you max settings on many new games.

Your motherboard also does Hybrid Power too! - so if you had the cash for a 9800GTX or GX2, it'd switch to your onboard to save power when not in games.

Try the configurator linked on the page.

EDITersonally, I wouldn't bother with trying hybrid SLi, unless you're on a budget, and go for the 8500GT. If you have a fair amount of cash and want high quality settings, ignore it and aim for a single card solution, like the 8800GT upwards and it will serve you well.

Configuring an SLI system with 2 actual cards is also an option, but would depend on how many PCI-E slots your motherboard has.

I would recommend the 8600GT, I can really only compare it to an older 6600 LE and a X800XL, but it does substantially better than both. Also, www.newegg.com has the one I just bought for $80 with a $30 mail in rebate. I haven't recieved my rebate, of course I'm supposed to wait 10-12 weeks, but so far I can truthfully say it was worth the $80. I'm putting in serious consideration to buy another for SLI.

EDIT: Sorry, I got the Gigabyte 8600 GT 256MB GDDR3: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125070
