It could be because of a lot of reason, most people think its because of compability issues rather than no R&D

there are no arguments for a 512bit bus. none at all, so don't even try man.

512bit busses make the core run hotter, they make the PCB more complex, and they make the card more expensive overall. there are NO saving graces of it.

ATI already figured this out with the 2900 series. too bad nvidia didn't learn from it.
We will see, I bet that the GT280 will smoke the 4870 even though it has the better *cough* GDDR5 *cough* approach

also to the person that said that HL2 looks as good as Crysis, You need to have your eyes checked mate

What a thread full of fanboys

The HD 4870 isn't competing with the GTX 280, the 4870x2 is, and that card has two 256 bit memory controllers.

So you only need $1300 worth of GPU power to max a $50 game on a $1000 monitor eh? Sounds like a deal to me!

What about 4 4870s that what i want to know. Although this does give us an idea of the cards power, however this is on probably incomplete drivers or at the least buggy drivers so its not say to call it out just yet.

I'll get a new 22" when I get around to it but this monitor has been working fine for me for years now. My FPS doesn't drop at all. Hasn't ever dropped below 40 to my knowledge, but I don't look at the thing every second either. I rather enjoy the game I'm playing instead of being critical of it.

A side note - If I recall, it was mentioned when Crysis came out, that the hardware we have today wasn't going to be able to max it out. They warned everyone. In most hardware cases even today, that is still true.
But people still complain. If you aren't happy now about it, you never will be. So.. get over it

So your babbling about something that does NOT even concern you... why even reply negatively when your gameboy sized screen is not even relevant ?
"Game boy sized screen"

"I rather enjoy the game I'm playing instead of being critical of it."

Who says you can't do both? It's possible to enjoy a game, and at the same time accept (and discuss) the reality it requires an inordinate level of hardware to run it at very high resolutions (the point of the original article).

Too True!!
ya know, its kinda sad if an entire generation of card is dedicated to one game at one insane resolution. you would think people would start caring less about ONE GAME and more about power consuption, heat, price and stuff. i do believe the USA economy isnt doing the best so have $1300 worth a graphics cards for ONE game is a inane waste of money. and that nvidia is benching it against ONE game before its even released is pretty sad imo....there are more games then just crysis, and most of them are better plot wise and gameplay wise (see portal, hl2, assassins creed (beginning part anyway), cs series, COD4, etc)

this quite possibly the DUMBEST thing nvidia could have done basing its next gen cards off ONE game...
