It's called relative performance...the 9800GTX will have always be static, since it represents 100%. The plot is performance, not FPS. So, it implies the 4870 has a better increase in performance in DX10 Crysis than DX9 FEAR.

We don't know that for sure. And still, not all games will have the same point of reference for the same card.

If we did it that way it would mean like the 9800GTX scored 38FPS in Crysis DX10 and 38FPS in FarCry DX9

Unless the point of reference is different for every game, in which it makes the graph useless anyways

I seriously doubt these are real, it is too much of a coincidence that there have been a pro Nvidia graph and a pro ATI spilling the same info.
Yes, we do know that for sure because that's how these graphs are meant to be read. You're reading the graph wrong. It's not 38 across the board. It's read as whatever FPS the 9800 GTX got in Game X, the performance jump the HD 4870 gets over it is relative.

The 8800GT is always a perfect one because the numbers represent by what factor performance has increased. So in Crysis, for example, 8800GT is a 1 because it represents 100% of the 8800GT's performance. HD4850 scores a 1.4 because it has 140% percent of the performance of an 8800GT. It makes sense for the 8800GT to always be at 1 for the same reason that the 3870X2 was always 1 on the Nvidia chart, a card can't have more than 100% of its own performance. This isn't a perfect comparison because if the 8800GT was only getting 10FPS at those settings (hypothetically), then a 40% improvement is worthless. But, for what this chart is comparing,t hat doesn't make it worthless.

But like I said, if it is that way. The graph means jack because there are no figures for this (1) to directly translate into performance.

For all you haters out there, you need to read the graph correctly.

the 1 that is given to the nVidia card is what ever that card got for that particular game. and then the 1.x is the percentage greater that the ATI card got, again for that particular game. This is how every nVidia score is 1 no matter what game they were testing or what card they were testing. It would be nice if they included FPS instead of a ratio but thats marketing for you.

I'll agree that these numbers are not 100% correct but it is much better than nVidia's graph last week that started out a .8 instead of 0 like this one.

Yes there is. You don't need 2 values. You have the initial 1 value and the relative performance gap between the 2 cards. If you want to attach the number 563860875 to that 1 value, then just add the difference of percentile plus the initial value to the ATI card.

But for all we know these figures could be made up. The figures for the base value of the 9800GTX/88GT could be made up and then they could have just added some on to make the 4870 seem impressive.

It wouldn't be the first time a company has done that that is why I mean it doesn't mean anything. It is just my personal opinion of course, but without any real numbers i won't beleive a thing.

I mean what does 1, or 1.5 correspond to in gaming? And why do both the 9800GTX and the 8800GT both score a 1? I thought the 9800GTX was more powerful then the 8800GT?

It is funny how the 8800GT scores a perfect 1 every time and the 4870 scores differ a bit. This is the exact same as the Nvidia graph but with AMD fanboyism written all over it.
