Problems getting Q9450 to 3.2

System Specs
Q9450
GA-P35-DS3L
3gb (2 512 2 1GB) 800mhz AData RAM

So basically I havent been able to get this thing stable above 3.0ghz. All I can get it up to is 2.9ghz (I am a noob at overclocking processors). I have a feeling it has something to do with the RAM because when I run the auto-voltage control the motherboard puts it at 2.0v when I run the voltage by myself I put it at 1.8v (stock) Also the cpu vcore right now is 1.15, and auto voltage sets it to 1.2. Now I have no problems with stability at 2.9ghz and leave it on this all the time, yet if I go to 3.2, it wont even get to the windows loading screen, it just restarts after the bios screen is shown. At 2.9ghz all I have changed on the voltage is DDR2 +.1 (for some reason this makes it run at 1.8) FSB volt +.1 and CPU voltage at 1.2 (which comes down to 1.15 whenever I'm actually in windows go figure).

What I've tried to get 3.2ghz is turning everythings voltage to +.1 and she wont load. Tried putting the DDR to +.2 and she wont load. Turned VCORE up to 1.25 won't load. I'm not sure if I'm just being a pansy with the volts on the motherboard or what cause they can only go up +.3v max so I dont really wanna go that high if I dont have to.

try takeing the 2x512's out and run d-channel,run manual v-v at 1.35,ram 2.0,pci-e at 105,the v-c is pretty much the intel max i believe,if you can get it to 3.2 then back down some, just a start.

so having differing RAM size can affect an overclock? Also PCI-e at 105? Does that mean the bus speed?

id say try that first, and yes,it should be pci-e atleast set at 100 not auto, ihave mine at 105 with an o/c say 3.4-6 o and what is your ram at,try 1:1 or under rated speed to,almost forgot

Having different RAM set to different speeds than they are meant to be run at will cause issues. If you have the option to UNLINK your RAM I would do that and set it to factory settings - for the time being remove the 2 512's. Bump your vCore to 1.3 if it's a new processor.

So I've took out the two 512mb sticks (btw all 4 sticks run at 800mhz and are all ADATA). I have the RAM right now at a 1:1 with the processor so it runs at like 7 something and when I set it to 3.2 ghz runs at 800mhz. I can now get past the all the little checking crap it does after the bios screen and get all the way to the point where it says "windows was unexpectedly shut down" in which case I select "Start windows normally" and then the loading windows part never comes up. I saw another thread talking about holes so I bumped it up to 3.4ghz and it didnt get past the bios screen.

So I'm guessing the ram is having something to do with it seeing how with the 512 out I get slightly farther, however i noticed if I tried 3.16 ghz I couldnt get past that part either...

Another thing, I only got to that point on auto voltage. If I bump the ram by .2 and everything else by .1 with vcore at 1.3 I dont see the device listing thing after the bios screen. if I set everything to +.2 except pci-e then i get to the "start windows normally" where it breaks. I dont feel like everything +.2 is safe cause I can only go up +.3 anyways. The northbridge only has its little heatsink and the southbridge has an even smaller one.

Your voltages on the board may be too low, plus, you are still below vCore on a processor that hasn't been burned in yet - sound about right?

Well I've had the processor for a month or two now so I would say its burnt in pretty well. This could be it. I have version f7 bios and the version f8b (beta) says this "update CPU ID (support Intel Yorkfield Q9xxx series CPU)".

Flash it, give it a shot.

Ok so I flashed it, and I just got back from work and it gave me a bunch more options that I need to mess with. One thing though, it gave me the option to increase my multiplier by .5. Literally in the bios it says my multiplier is 8.5 and my speed is 3.14 ghz now but in cpuz and such it still says im at x8 multiplier. Pretty weird.
