How does everyone know it won't hold up? For all we know the sun could be a freezing cold thing on the surface, its just telling us its warm through a big firewall.

I maed a funnies.

I wish people would stop telling people how do you know what NASA can and can't do. You don't know either and chances are the sun will BURN ANYTHING.

If they have the proper materials to withstand that amount of heat I'm simply amazed......

better yet when do we get cpu's made with this stuff

I'm pretty sure they will have to sort out a few things before they attempt this. Last I can remember, their new Mars lander is currently choking on some tough earth. More engineering work needed clearly

And yeah, light is made of photons.

Also, maybe we won't need to go to the Sun, maybe it will come to us with the help of our new CERN LHC (Large Hadron Collider). Mmm, feels toasty in here

No, I don't know what the people at NASA can and can't do, exactly. But I'm gonna go out on a huge limb here and dare say they probably know a whole helluva lot more about it than you.

Wow, way to turn this into a political debate. And did you even read my original post? Your response was so far off topic that I'm actually sort of frustrated with the lack of thought on your part. I was talking about the fact that YOU seem to be the one with any lack of recognition.

The purpose of my post was to point out that... NASA... this massive scientific research corporation (you know... the type that fly a little package a couple hundred million miles away, land it perfectly on the surface of a planet, then deploy an unscathed robot and remote control it right from home...), maybe just possibly thought about that funny little thing about the sun. Do you not think that, when the mission developers were designing some aspect of the mission, they might have thought "Well, what about the heat?"

They most likely then put about 7 months of thought into how to protect a multi-million dollar investment, which was a hell of a lot more time than you took when typing your mindless thought.

As if NASA hadn't thought this through...

Nicely put. Yeah, they've probably done a little research on the matter. But who knows, maybe none of them actually thought about heat from the sun....
