PC gaming is maybe a little too challanging for most?

I posted this here just incase anyone else is having problems wsith Age of Conan

I just went out and brought Age of Conan for my pc. BTW, I do have autoplay enabled. Just for the fun of it I decided to follow the directions in the book.

I put the first disc in and nothing happens. I click on the disk drive from my computer and it ask me if I want to write to the disk...

I take the disk out and put it back in. Again, nothing happens. I click on the dvd drive and it opens to the game files. I click install and selected the English option. I wait a few minutes and nothing happens. Try again, still nothing.

Finally I found the English install(data-en) in the game files and double clicked that. The game is now finally installing. This last part was not mention in the manual which means that those who don't randomly click things wouldn't have been able to get this working.

I also had problems getting Mass Effect to work on my PC. I did get around it quickly. But that's not the point. I'm sure these issues annoyed the hell out of quite a few people.

In all honesty I don't think it's the hackers who are ruining pc gaming. I personally think it's all the issues you run into just to the play the game.

Could be weird OS issues. I install Windows every 4-6 months-ish, and that works wonders. Also increases your harddrive life (or so I've heard). Before I reinstalled my OS on this current computer 3 days ago, it would never change the title of the DVD in the DVD drive, even when I changed DVD's, and it would treat it as the first thing that was there, I also had to manually open the E: Drive and click install. Also, if the issues with Mass Effect/AoC are in-game, it might be due to your 7900 getting overwhelmed.

Do you have daemon tools or some thing equivalent intalled? Some game developers will make it so you can't install a game if those kinds of apps are installed.

Some will install the game, but un-install daemon tools at the same time...but I've heard of both ways.

With computer's the wierdiest things happen randomly. But it's the price you pay for top of the line.

Crazy, those are abnormalities... would you expect them to write instructions for something that isn't supposed to happen? :/

Er, I mean, it was supposed to just work. And it did for me, and just about everybody else, so the problem is local ;|

have you tweaked your OS at all, that might have to do with your problems. i installed mass effect 2 times, once on my laptop (see sig rig)and once on my friends rig (e6600, 8800gtx, winXP) and never had any trouble.

but i remember when i was tweaking to the death my old XP installation i always had major issues with installing or playing games.

The reason that the CD drive icon never changes (and possibly the original posters problem as well) are due to the XP feature called "Auto Insert Notification" being turned OFF. Certain CD burning programs (it can also be found in many XP tweaking programs) will recommend you turn this feature off (and provide an interface for you to do so) without telling you why you should, or informing you of the drawbacks to doing so.

Personally, I like it Off, but it can cause some strange issues like discs not autorunning, and the cd drive icon never changing ...

Typically, the best thing to do when exploring an install disc that doesn't automatically bring up the install program is to double-click the file "autorun.exe" in the disc's root directory.

I agree. PC Gaming is a tad bit too complicated for the average everyday person. Plus with all the cheaters, aimbotters, hackers, etc more people would prefer consoles to PCs. Though I do hear Microsoft is having a bit of a problem with aimbotters and wallers on Halo 3 and some other games.
