i think the gt200 chip is the g92 killer, not to mention g80.

Would this run games like oblivion and others on max and high settings?

My plan is to get the whole setup for the 4870 X2, but put a single 3870 in to hold me off until fall, then sell my 3870 and buy the 4870 X2.

I don't want to wait until July/August for the 4870 X2 to come out. (I'm pretty impatient I've been researching computers for 3 months now.)
i know that feeling of look for ages and you just want to spend all that hard earned money ... in theory crossfire 4870 "should" perform the same as 4870X2, but noone knows how any of these actually perform due to noting being released yet ... if you look in the OCN Hardware News Section for things about the 4xxx series and nvidia gt200 series you can find all the released material lately ... and well it is mostly rumor ... best bet is to wait for solid real world benching

you really need a full rig to determine that you cant just assume the graphics card is all that is needed. But that card should be fine with oblivion (maybe not max MAX with all the tiny adjustments the game has) as long has you have a half decent rig to back it up.

if your thinking crysis then id have to say no, at least not on a high level of graphics

A 8800 Ultra is just an overclocked 8800GTX. Find an 8800GTX on Ebay, and OC that puppy up to 8800 Ultra speed.
