q6600- is my OC good?? noob questions

hello everyone... I got sick of watching my idle temp on my stock q6600 go to 65C(load), and examined my MOBO OC settings...

Vcore: 1.3250
Vfsb: 1.30
fsb speed: 1066mhz
multi: 9x

etc(all stock for evga 750i)

I noticed that the vcore seemed high to me...
so i figured lets try the OC and see what happens
so I changed the fsb to 1333 mhz(achieving a 3000 mhz cpu clock speed)

I've noticed, that at idle, I am running 5C cooler than stock(***???)

I used OCCT to test.

SO, now i have 35C idle, and 65C(max) load

for the load temp..., 1 core peaks at 65C, but on average runs at 62C
my lowest load temp is on my 4th core, it averages at about 60C

mind you this is with a horrible cermanic-based orb style cooler, I have a tuniq tower on the way(gonna have to do some case modding)

BTW I am also running my gskill 1000mhz 5-5-5-15 @ 1000mhz 5-7-7-17(still need to memtest)

Basically is this good??, can anyone give recommendations/suggestions/tips?

BTW I am looking at the 750i overclock guide, but I am looking to learn... just reading that guide doesn't seem to help me that much.

Why would you run your ram at worse than rated timings?
Anyway, I have the same cpu and ram, and I have found my 780i board to be much more stable with OCing while running the ram at 800mhz. The ram can get very nice timings (4-4-4-12-1T, havent tried lower yet) at this speed. Vista seems much more responsive with 800mhz and low timings versus 1000mhz and 5-5-5-15, and its stable.

The best way to learn is to try things yourself. I tried the pencil volt mod and learned that it allowed me to run a lower vcore and get lower temps at idle.
I also learned that the GTL voltages are key for OCing a quad on these nvidia boards, don't expect to go too far over 3000mhz without using them.

Have a read through here ;]

Your temps do seem a bit high too.

well, i adjusted the ram to 5-5-5-15-2T (@1.9v).. it worked, but upon doing further research, i bumped it to 2.5v(as the ram is rated 2-2.1v) - it was stable both ways...

I could not get 4-4-4-12-1T stable at 2.0-2.1v however(maybe I should knock it down to 1.9v????)

for that matter, I couldn't get a stable memory OC at all.... 1000 mhz seems to be my limit....(I was just playing though, I didn't try every setting..., maybe the extra 5-25mhz FSB needs a voltage adjustment.....Currently @ 1.25v)

still haven't read about the GTL voltages.....
