It's not recommended. Even though you have more than enough ram many applications still rely on a pagefile. Disabling it altogether can cause nothing but problems.

Some do actually disable the Page File with large volumes of RAM with no problems... But if for what ever reason your caching exceeded the RAMs capacity

I used to say I hated Vista, then I installed it on my system... Now I see it as a usable piece of SW. However, _most_ places will still allow you to select XP on a new system build, but not for very long...

BTW, Duke nailed it right on the head. When I first started using UNIX, the page file was one of the hardest things to understand when configuring a new system. The rule of thumb was this;

swap partition = 2x installed memory size. That would only last until they upgraded the hardware so we did 4x.

Outcasst; YMMV Give it a try and if you have any issues you know what to fix. On windows 98, I never had any issues with turning off the page file. I have only tried it once on XP and had issues (not sure if it was related to bad memory or not).

Don't do this...some programs will specifically try to place data in the page file and if it can't find one it will repeatedly try and you will have worse performance.

If you want to get a slight help on the page file, install a second hard drive and have it do nothing but be a page file. Even an old hard drive will do just fine. it wouldn't do much on a regualr PC but it works wonders on any server system...especially web and game servers.

as to the OP...

more memory will help a lot but that 6200 might be biggest problem. Wasn't that basically a 5000 series card with faster memory?

Dude, if you are talking about 3d gaming you absolutely MUST have at LEAST an AGP Card, (much) preferably a PCI-Express card.

A PCI gpu just doesn't cut it for any game less than about 5 years old, and will probably only run GOOD with a game at least 7 years old.

It's a new millenium my friend. The 90's are over.

More ram ain't gonna do **** for you when it comes to gaming.

And fiddling with your page file?

Please...

Heh...I was assuming they meant PCI-E...umm. Yeah, sorry but there will be flash games that will test that system. I am sorry, but you're best bet is to save up some money and build a new machine. A budget gaming rig can be done fairly cheap these days, $350 will make a decent rig. If you can re-use your case, hard drive, and optical drive it can be much cheaper. But what you are trying to game on i donate to a school in Africa about twice a month.

I'm guessing a processor upgrade would be in order...and PCI gfx is poop. Other than that I cant think of anything else? Faster/bigger HD?
