Piracy

isnt it funny if you buy something like a car or house you own it you can do what you want with it

yet if you buy some music you dont own it its never yours that is wrong

the thing is i dont get it, recording song has been happening since the invention of the tape recorder

if i buy something and pay for it i own it its mine if i wish to break it or make a copy of it to give to a friend thats up to me they took my money and in return gave me a disk with songs on it there ends thats transaction

what gives them the right to come back later and dictate what i can and can not do with it they are more then welcome to buy them back off me at the price i now wish to ask for it but they wont and untill then its mine and ill do with it what i want

should i wish to make copys and shear them thats up to me i have not signed any agreement and no agreement was offered at the point of sale which means im not bound to comply with any rules they wish to impose after the point of sale

As for movies lets face it they all come out on tv for free in the end and im sure even with people shearing what they have bought with outhers the likes of John Travolta will still make enough money to get the runway fixed when needed for his boeing747 he has parked next to his house

As for games most break the law anyway with anti copy protection on them let its perfectly legial to make a copy of anything you own but of course thats right you only think you own it,anyway in most cases its the pirates that are quick to fix most bugs found in games long before the supplyers do in fact most of the updates patches come from the work of pirates anyway what better test ground

and im sure 90% of you are accessing this site with a stolen OS, isnt it funny the US govenment protect the world most famous Pirate (Bill Gates) yet want to take your house away from you for downloading a song that was paid for by someone in the first place

let me put it to you this was if i steal your car paint it a diffarent colour change the number plates dose that really make me the lawful owner of that car so what makes microsoft windows any diffarent oh thats right by the time they took him to court it was to late he had a monopoly and far to much money to really do anything

To be honest most of the world dont really care what laws the US try to impose they listen to them or enforce them lets not forget the US is no bigger than Aussie in land size and there in the world top 10 countrys for Murder maybe they should focus on real crime and stop picking on the people trying to make the most out of life with some small enjoyments

If you hadn't already lost all credibility with the rest of your somewhat delusional post; you did right there.

lol - because we all know that the cassette was the first form of audio storage

because when you bought it you bought it under the terms that they dictated

If you buy from online music stores you agree to the terms of service. If you buy via CD you are a citizen of some nation, and bound by its laws. In the US, this means that you cannot copy and distribute cd's.

Just because you steal does not mean that we do

That boom you just heard - that was my brain exploding attempting to comprehend that "sentence" (and I use the term loosely).

So it's okay to steal if you really really like to?

Rabidgnome229: I don't know which is funnier.... Surrepfun's post (and the fact he actually seems serious about it), or your reply to it. I'm seriously laughing right now, a lot.

Piracy is not the same as stealing, especially when it is not for profit, and you know it. Go ahead and say it is the same, but it does not change the fact that it is far from it.

Frankly, I am really sick of all the people on OCN (not naming anybody in particular) who are so damn full of themselves, righteous and noble, and constantly preach about the evils of piracy and how you need to pay that $450 for Vista, or $1000+ for Adobe software.

I agree with everything Surrepfun said, except for the part about giving away copies of CDs you bought is OK. Even that is harmless, and you guys know it. The artists do NOT get the money you pay for CDs with. The RIAA does, and they use it to sue dead grandmothers, who had a 4-year old that downloaded a copy of the Barney song.

I'm sorry, but if there is anybody on here that even remotely supports or agrees with any part of the RIAA/MPAA, then you need your internet service terminated permanently. I am going to REP+ all of Surrepfun's posts; he knows and understands more on this issue than most everybody on OCN collectively, most of whom are zombies to "The Man".

You don't "buy" the song, you purchase a license to use it. It is called intellectual property, been around for ages.

Although I do not agree with the Big Brother legislation the RIAA, or the MPAA, I do think that steeling any form of intellectual property is wrong.

Most people don't steel for "profit".

You cannot justify an action because you think that the artists make too much money or are not going to get the money at all. That is quite illogical.

If the price is not worth it to you, then don't buy it. Show me 1 place that is selling Vista for $450.
