[GT] House Passes PRO IP Act - Page 8

I believe people should be fined for stealing music. But not like this.

I mean charge them the $20 for the album along with like a $500 - $5,000 fine. Something reasonable.

Saying piracy is stealing is like saying that breaking into a store grabbing a CD and making a run for it is the same as going on the Interned and downloading the CD.
Yep, no difference whatsoever...
It's simple logic people: when you copy something the original is unaltered, when you steal something you're stealing the original. Any other argument is made irrelevant by this one.
Just because you want piracy=stealing doesn't make it so, and saying that in every post won't convince anybody of anything other that you're annoying.
But keep trying that line, perhaps once it's been said a million times people will magically start to think it's true. (Sigh)
By your definition I could go and steal a Ford Focus off a dealership car park and that would be ok because its not the only one in existance, they make lots of them

I can't see how you could understand that from what I said. That's not what I said at all. So ...

Ok, so we will try again.

As someone else mentioned.......

If I went into a book shop and photocopied a book, cover to cover, that would be ok?

They've pretty much passed the same thing here, ever hear of Bill C-60? Apparently they passed it sometime this week or last, but I can't find anything about it. They tried to pass it in December but delayed it, our government is being much more sneaky about it then our neighbors to the south.

No you couldn't. It's a tangible object. It would be missing and need to be replaced. With piracy, you make you OWN copy. When you get it, no other copy is MISSING somewhere.

It's really not that hard to understand.

Check the other example I gave then.

If I went into a book shop and photocopied a book from cover to cover, thus making my own copy, and put the original back on the shelf, is that ok?

No

Seeing as most public copying machines have a cost of 10 cents per copy, that would be more expensive than buying the book.

And even if you only copied a few pages, that would not be stealing.

Unfortunately, it is considered stealing and you would get in trouble, so it would be a bad idea.

If you are pirating something, you can be considered stealing it. How much clearer do you want me to make it? I already provided you with the dictionary definitions on this post.

A different means to the same end. Theft.

So you actually admit it is stealing, but you personally think it's not? Wow. I don't think you understand that we can't just pick and choose which laws we do or don't obey depending on personal viewpoints. That's not how it works.

I would go into court with a cd, break it in half and give each half to different people. Then tell the judge thats what happened online. Neither person has working, usable file from me = no infringement.
And I suppose chop shops are legal then....
