PSP D-pad repair

Thread Starter
Well, I dropped my PSP today, and damaged the D-pad (and nothing else, luckily.) The right and down buttons require a lot of pressure to work. What's the most likely cause? What's a good source for a quality replacement part?

The first question is: Is it still under warranty? Get a replacement if at all possible.

If not" I'd open it up, if you're comfortable with that, and check the underside of the plastic buttons, the rubber mat, & most importantly the traces under the buttons. It could be a simple fix (thow some putty or something between the button & rubber mat, or it may require you to get another unit.

I agree with sctheluna; if you're not under warranty anymore, grab a screwdriver:

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12316

And some replacement conducters just in case yours are scrapped:

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2752

You can also get nifty colored buttons =)

Have fun. Their shipping is totally free, but takes a while since they're from China.

Don't get those buttons, they are really hard to press. I have gotten gold, clear, and red buttons from dealextreme and they are really bad quality. That is not a regular screwdriver. It is a torx screwdriver used to take out a few screws on the new slim PSPs. To take off a faceplate, you need this.
