Problem SLI 8800GT with 780i

Thread Starter
Well guys i got a little problem.

I got my new 780i motherboard with a second 8800GT today and couldnt wait to install it. I've installed everything and reinstalled windows vista business x64 with it and it worked. So i went over to the drivers of my motherboard (EVGA 780i SLI) and then my 8800GT drivers and restarted my pc. When i did i got a windows pop-up that said SLI was detected.
I started Nvidia panel and wanted to enable SLI. The screen went black with a little white stripe flashing in upper left corner like its installing. But after 10 minutes it still trying to enable SLI but doesnt looks like it and i restart pc. And after that the geforce drivers are deleted and needed to be installed again.

I want to know if anyone knows this problem and the fix. Im downloading service pack 1 right now.

Specs:
EVGA 780i motherboard
E6850 @ 3,0ghz
2gb DDR2
1 old 8800GT 600/1500/1800
1 new 8800GT 600/1500/1800

Only difference in GT's is the cooler.

Im having same problem got 2 identical 8800GTs G92 core and all installed fine.Well so i thought,The system reconises SLI but if i try and start a game or benchmark the screen goes all pale blue, when i hit escape it reverts back to desk top.Now when i start pc it bypasses post screen and boots straight into windows xp with sp3 installed.could it be my PSU? 500w Jeantech JNP-500.My PC specs are below.Any feed back would be great. Thanks in advance,Also Admin could you PLEASE if possable start a new thread with my problem? some thing like 8800GT SLI Problems help needed. Can get a 700 or 750w psu BLUE STORM Jeantech from PC World if it the psu. Only place to buy in my town,Unless i get a cheap one.Which is a no no.

500 watts is not gunna be enough for dual 8800's in addition to your optical drive, hard drives, board power, cpu power, Ram power, any and all fans you have etc the list goes on.

Recommended specs on 8800 GT a " Single card" on the box states minimum 400 watt psu. Do the math...

Hope this helps

Until you run a game that utilizes sli, the second card is essentially inactive.

You don't need 1000w to run two GTS. I had a Seasonic M12 700W that was more than sufficient.

Also excellent is the pc power and cooling quad sli 750w.

Actually it's plenty.

One user ran a single 8800GT of a 300watt enermax and Grunion was running a quad and a 3870X2 off a 550watt

500w is enough, just not...that brand.

And, hey that's me!

Running two 8800GT's on a 780i with a 550w psu. 500w should be sufficient, it's listed as the minimum on nvidia's website.

OP: Make sure you have the latest nforce drivers for the 780i and pick up the latest WHQL forceware.
