Good idea ? Suggestions?

So i just bought this: https://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...?Sku=E145-8620
from tigerdirect, a 8600 gt
along with a whole new system which i am pretty happy with. I only wanted to spend around $80 for a graphics card, so i decided on that one. Now first of all im asking you guys if that was a good choice, for the price, and in comparison. I could have gotten an 8800 gt for $40 more or so, but i dont see the point. I could easily overclock to 8800gt speed without any problem, and even go way past that. Point me in the right direction if im wrong.

Thank you! =]

8600GT is a 128bit GPU so 512mb is overkill. AT that price, I may go for 8800GT GDDR3 256mb. If you can stand 8800GT 256mb, here is $89.99.

Would that really change all that much?

8800GT is G92 core/256bit with GDDR3. 8800GT is G84 core/128bit with GDRR2 in your case. Even you can OC 8600GT to 8800GT clock/shader/ram, it won't the same performance. However, it seems 8600GT is good enough in your case, so just enjoy it.

Keep your 8600GT for now. Save up to get yourself a 8800GT 512. If you feel like it. But its all up to you on what will be your next card.

I did have a 8600GT before I did run COD4 actually on high it ran great. Crysis though ran really slow on med and low.I got to admit my old 8600GT was pretty impressive for some of the latest games.I even played Gears Of War on it pretty fine on med.

It's a decent choice, for the price. The only bad thing is that it only has DDR2 memory, not DDR3. Mine is almost exactly like yours, except it has DDR3. Have fun with that card.
