Add old hard drive to new system?

Thread Starter
i just got a new system with a seagate 500 and in my old computer i have a 200GB (whatever comes in a stock hp)

what do i need to do with the old drive to run it in the new system so i can use it for extra storage?

Would it act like a external (get its own drive Letter? or be intagrated?)

PS: all the sata and RAID stuff confuses me so you might have to explain a little. Also the old drive is full of stuff right now inc. vista 32...

Does your old harddisk use an IDE or SATA interface?

edit: OK, you say your old disk has vista installed, so I'm going to assume that it's SATA.

All you need to do is hookup your old hard drive...
then
Go into your bois and make sure that your new hard drive is first in line for the boot sequence.

Once windows boots go to 'My Computer' and you should see your old (newly installed) HD.
Windows will assign it a new drive letter.

Cake.

Look at Your Old Drive, If it has 2 cables coming out of it, its A SATA. The Cable with the Wider End is The Power, and is usually plugged into a Molex from The Psu. The Other Cable Might Be Longer and More Narrow. That Cable Connects it to Your Motherboard. All You Have to Do is Plug the Wide one into your new pc's Molex and the slimmer one into the mobo. If You Have a single Long,Flat,Wide,Cable coming out of you HDD its IDE.... I have no idea how to configure IDE Drives.

Raid 0 Is 2 Harddrives of The Same Brand,Same Speed, Same Storage working together. For Example When you save a File 50% of Data is Saved in one Drive and the other 50% in the Other. Its Suppose to Make things Fast but it doesnt really work for gaming.

so since the drives are different and i dont want them to work together anyways i dont need to worry abot RAID or anything. Just make sure the seagate is the primary boot drive and the second drive will act like my External USB drive.

yeah, just hook it up, assign a drive letter, and format it too I guess. And voila it should work.
