well lets say that you follow chozart's guide but keep your q6600, i think you'd be alot closer to your budget than before.

I have a few suggestions, why not try dual core they are great and have a good reputation for overclocking, from personal experence i prefer dual core. i've gotten E8200 to 4.2GHz and E8400 at 4.5GHz, but it depends if you are planning on overclocking. Also go for the coolermaster 690 they are great cases, very easy to mod. And for the HDD WD SATA 500GB is extremley cheap these days, u dont need a big cashe. Or u might want to get a Raptor but they are quite expensive. Go for 4GB memory and vista ultimate w/ sp1 You can always crack software... But u didn't hear it from me . As for power supplies Go for a corsair (Zalman over-rated). And a few tips, Have fun and good luck.

Why don't you try to buy some things here on OCN? There are alot of PSU and cases for sale here. Prices are alot better than retail.
169.95 for 8800gt? There is a 8800gts in the for sale thread for 175 shipped.

You don't always have to buy things new.

One thing for sure to do is get another case, which can save you $60. The Cooler Master Centurion 5XX series go for ~$50.

Definitely get another PSU. Buy.com has the Corsair 550VX cheaper ($75 after MIR)...saves $35

Maybe you can get an E4XXX and OC it. It wont lose THAT much performance and will save you ~$50

Also, the Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7 will save you another $10

Total savings ~$155.

Cooler Master Centurion 5 is a great case for the money. I have 3 at my house right now for builds that I am doing. Great case.

I would either get a E2xxx, a E7200 or a Q6600. Those are the only chips that I would get due to the cost vs performance.

Check out my guide to intel builds in my sig.
