4870 X2 or GTX 280?

Thread Starter
I was wondering, based on what we know already, if the ATI HD 4870 X2 will perform slightly more or less for gaming compared to the nVidia GTX 280.

I'm looking to build a computer soon, and am not sure to go with ATI or nVidia.

If the GTX 280 is better, then I'll wait a couple weeks for that card to be released, and then build my system.

However, if the 4870 X2 has the upper hand, I will get my system now, build it for using the 4870 X2, but instead throw in a single 3870, and when the 4870 X2 comes out in the fall, I will sell my 3870 and get the 4870 X2.

Wait for both cards so you actually get to see how they perform instead of relying on speculation.

But damn the GTX280 is going to be a rip off and it is also just a iomproved version of the G92 which people can't seem to see.

Some saying came into my mind when reading that....something to do with not playing your hand until all the cards are dealt...goes something like that...but pretty much you can't guess technology..sometimes you get lucky other times not so lucky. If you ask me you need to wait to see who beats who. My vote will be for nvidia however I would like to see ATi take the gold for once been an ATi user myself either way lets hope there an affordable release of cards with (as 3DGameman would say) "KickAss" performance.

Obviously the 4870X2 - it is literally 4.2 million times faster as it has been PROVEN with pure guesses and no facts. BUT, I don't need anymore convincing than that! Plus, my mom said it had to be faster cause it's really technically a 9740. I can't believe ATI is already releasing the 9740!!!!

EDIT: Actually, I think I'll wait for the 9740X2...
