A non-Creative solution

Thread Starter
I'm in the market for a new sound card. I recently bought a Creative SB Audigy, but it went tits up on it's second day of use. I did some research on the issue and creative and have decided that I no longer want to purchase thier products. I mostly use my computer for gaming and listening to music. I will running Vista by the time I get a card, I heard that this makes a difference with EAX. I want a card that will help take a load off the CPU, have good surround sound positiong, good driver and product support, and a nice easy to use GUI, lots of features, and good overall sound. Price is a concern! The card I really want is the ASUS Xonar DX7.1 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829132005. This is more than I want to spend. If I can't find any good alternatives then I will get the Xonar. Find me a card that matches my criterea. +Rep for the people who give good thorough advice.

Well that card beats out most of the lower end X-Fi's so I think you are good.

I am going for the Asus Xonar D2 (No free PCI-E 1x slots for the D2X)... With the enw drivers it can support EAX 5 as well making it the competitor for the X-Fi prelude

If you don't want to spend so much there is a slightly cut down version called the Asus Xonar DX for slightly more than a X-Fi xtremegamer.

I'm stuck with Creative at the moment and the drivers are pants.

Go for the Asus Xonar DX (slimmed down version). It has great reviews and you shouldn't have any Creative-style driver headaches!

Sigh..

There is nothing wrong with creative products and the whole driver crap was blown out of proportion.

On the other hand the Auzentech Prelude which ONLY USES the X-FI chip which mas minimal impact on audio processing and is a VERY GOOD card. Auzentech has great drivers for vista and i have had no problems with the Prelude.

Imo let Asus stick to making GPUS Motherboard and what not .

Sounds cards to Auzentech

Not from my personal experience. The sound drivers crash, refuse to produce any sound output and have locked features which should be available.
