It's $499 according to another thread to compete with the ATI cards in price (better at least).
They will be taking one hell of a loss. The whole reason the price was high to begin with is because of the HORRIBLE yields.

All of a sudden everyone became financial experts and tend to know every single aspect of nVidia's business and how well it goes and how profitable it is.

Please don't try to judge such things, cause u have nothing except rumors and zero knowledge on how nVidia leads it's business.

But we can get a general Idea. Look massive die size=crappy yields. 512 bit-bus=more complex PCB and more layers=higher cost.

Step-up always charges the MSRP for the card, not the current market price.

That was the GTX260. Which was dropped to $399 I believe. GTX280 is still about $599.

I know that this is about release dates but they touched on the price so I wanted to make a comment about that.

There was another thread here in the Hardware News section that stated nVidia is basically running their partners into the ground by dropping prices. It wouldn't surprise me at all if ATi decided to really stick it to nVidia and drop their price again the day before launch as I have read (albeit in May) that they could potentially do.

While the price point on the 4850 may not be able to go much lower (let's face it - that's a great looking card based on price vs. performance) but the 3850X2, 4870 and 4870X2 could be dropped a bit.

What would nVidia do then?

So apparently you know everything there is to know about nVidia's business? Our speculations versus your speculated reality.

Good job there, buddeh.

Friggin' fanboys.
