You can bet that many people will say "Oh well of COURSE 2 GPUs will beat one", even though it really doesn't matter.....faster is faster
When it comes down to it it's the maximum FPS/$ and arguably FPS/W...

Looking at the production costs i could see the 4870x2 being cheaper then the 9900GTX too (not just faster, which it would be considerably faster.)

lets say it beats the 9800GTX, but BARELY, it could still not be as good as the now almost 2 year old 8800GTX (since the 8800gtx beats the 9800gtx in high res or with aa/af)
ATI is REALLY be hind.

Even the 3870 comes close to / beats the 8800GTX with 8xAA / 16xAF (albeit framerates are low enough at that point on both cards that it's a moot point), so I don't really think that will be a problem. Really the only thing holding the RV670 back was the huge imbalance of shader power to a relatively small amount of texturing power, and this is supposedly now fixed.

ATi is not behind at all, that was a blantant fanboy comment. If you look at technology, they're leading Nvidia. Where's their DX10.1 support? 55nm?

R600: 420 mm²
RV670 : 194 mm²
G80: 480 mm²
G92: 334mm²
RV770:250mm
GT200: 576 mm2

lets get it out in the open, ATI is not targeting the performance crown yet, every die is smaller than Nvidia's. ATI's target : mastering 55nm small power houses and put 2 together, still smaller than 1 nvidia die, but which is the hotter, more power comsuming and most of all better performing? we'll have to wait to find out. The inquiror speculated that big gpus are bound to die, so this summer's gpu war will determine which company made the better road.

R800 - expect something entirely different, this should be the last gpu from ati based on the r600.
will ATI continue with the x2 designs or go for a single killer?
w/e after the GTX 280 - a ton of die shrinks. dies are too big for x2 currently ... and no SLI on nahlem either... hmm... so wahts gonna happen there?

Were you stating the obvious for a reason or asking a question?
No, he was poking fun at the article for stating the obvious. Nobody cares about whether or not the 4870 is going to beat the 9800GTX. I mean if it can't even do that, then ATI might as well commit suicide now and save us some trouble. What we're most interested in is how it will compete with the GTX260, so that's what the article should be focusing on.

ATi themselves have said the card is built to fight the 9800GTX...

but then they also said they want it to fight the GTX 260... time will tell
