Thread Starter
just got done building my first pc...

specs:
GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35
Q6600
CORSAIR Dominator 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066
XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 heat sink
RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-530SS 530W ATX12V V2.2
Thermaltake Armor+MX VH8000BWS

soon to be an 8800gts, and a 500gp hd but right now i am borrowing a vc and a 40gp hd

any suggestions on overclocking? i tried a few things but nothing worked. would like to see this overclocked to at least 3.4

keep it at 9x multi for now and see if u can get to 3.2ghz thru bios.... run 1.35vcore and see if it'll boot/stable. if it does. bump FSB up.... if its not stable then bump vcore...

Welcome to OCN.

You can get some good info from here, nice friendly bunch they are

Check out this thread for info that should give you a push in the right direction.

http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...l-threads.html

Also, you'll need the programs from here to help you along the way (Stress testing program, monitoring heat program, etc..)

You should turn down that voltage. 1.9 volts is WAY TOO HIGH for that chip. 1.5V is the max for the Q6600, even if it means lowering your clock speed. Your chip would degenerate pretty fast at those volts.

If you want to hit 3.4Ghz and you have a chip that isn't the best (like mine), you could set your BIOS vcore to 1.5V, set the multiplier to 9, and set the CPU Freq to 377. Then change the G(MCH) to +0.1V and see if your system is stable. Those are the settings that I need to hit 3.42 GHz and be stable with my chip and also with my motherboard (which you also have).

90C under load!? That's way to hot I'd back off a bit, that seems way to high for that voltage..

1.4v would be fine though as long as your temps are ok, i'd try a different temp monitoring prog just to make sure that it's correct btw.
