What does this mean to you?

This could possibly kill the brand, either Vizio will close its doors OR start charging HIGHER prices for its LCDs.

Vizio was able to afford to SELL CHEAP because they have been avoiding paying the PATENTS that all these companies own to make Vizio LCDs.

This is exactly why you dont see Apex and Cyberhome in stores anymore...

These companies basically "steal" patents until the owners come to collect. They usually just close their doors and run with the money. That means, no warranty, no support, nothing.

A similar lawsuit is also being filed against Target brand Trutech.
nice find... I am glad I went with Samsung I dont mind paying extra in life for some quality. I love my 61" of goodness...

Well, I have 3 Vizio's and I have to say the quality is as good as Samsung, maybe it's because they use the same manufacturing process, ever think of that, why else would they get sued for patent infringement.

This has nothing to do with quality so all the "I knew their quality sucked" is pointless. Vizio for one has made it's name by having good quality and great prices. It's a shame they didn't just bump the prices and pay for the patents they were using.

You all make it sound like just because it's not Samsung brand it's just gonna stop working now lol

And besides, there are many good brands, LG for one. I'm just sick of "OMG Samsung iz da best"

...thanks for the input, friend.

People buy Samsungs because they are reliable and they look good. I for one only buy Viewsonic and Samsung...and I'm not rich. The thing is, some of us, like to save up a bit more and buy something that we know we can trust.

Vizio monitors might be great. But, there are quite a few more negative reviews for those types of brands then others...from reputable sources.

Anything "high-end" I always trust the Premium names. I am currently building my Home Theater for my media room and not once did I consider these brands.

I will probably buy a Vizio from Wallmart (when the price is right) to put them in guest rooms.

Way not to quote any of the article in the OP. You single handedly colored this thread differently from reality

Quote:
Mitsubishi Electric Corp., Samsung Electronics Co. and other electronics companies sued television maker Vizio Inc. for refusing to license patents for video- compression technology used in high-definition TVs. [...]

``For many years, defendant has had an opportunity to license the patents,'' from individual companies or industry group MPEG LA, according to the complaint. ``Vizio refused.''
Big surprise - if you use tech you don't own and refuse to license it, you will get sued.

Quote:
Vizio was able to afford to SELL CHEAP because they have been avoiding paying the PATENTS that all these companies own to make Vizio LCDs.
Yeah - and that is illegal

Am I missing something here? I don't see the difference.

Do you see how maybe your post was a little biased towards Vizio?

They did something illegal - now they're getting busted for it. Your post makes it seem like this is some huge injustice when it is quite the opposite - justice
