You are big time unstable, and yes it probably has corrupted a lot of stuff and is the root of your issues.
By "Mad freeze" do you mean a freeze that you have to manually shut down (via hitting power button) after? If it is then yes, it is unstable. Run Memtest86+ for 10 passes (for memory and NB testing) then Ortho's.
You need to get 4GB of ram if you have x64 Vista. And it will work all fine and faster trust me.
It is by no means a requirement though.
I ran with 2gb for a few weeks, and it was fine, though yes obviously 4gb will be better.
